about Dennis and the project
What's your musical niche?
Ferris Wheel includes folk, country, Americana, and jazz flavors. My parents' records exposed me to classical, jazz, pop, and theatre music. I gravitated to folk, rock, and world music - so I like things diverse! My experience includes NYC folk clubs, studio work, and vocal ensembles. I co-founded a vocal jazz group, performed in musical theatre, and toured on the hotel & dinner club circuit in the US and abroad. Singing and songwriting have been lifetime pursuits.
How would you describe the album Ferris Wheel ?
Original acoustic-based songs with a thoughtful focus. They acknowledge the complexities of relationships through time. Some songs expose life’s darker side while others view life and love more gently and with some humor. The sound is centered on clear tenor vocals and acoustic guitar, with each track complemented by several diverse and talented instrumentalists.
The guitar
My primary guitar is a Swedish classical (Tarrega) nylon-string model with a 4”-deep body. Sold in the US by Fender (1965), the seasoned instrument has a deep and rich tone.
The production
Robert Bard (co-producer) is a talented musician and friend. An outstanding producer and engineer, Robert owns Skytop Sound in New Paltz, NY and also performs and teaches in the Hudson Valley. We focused on presenting the songs with warmth, sparseness, and intimacy. Enjoy!
