Lyrics

When the mockingbird wakes to the dawning light
and she sings her song to her mate;
as I lie in my bed, I’m still half in a dream
but aware…. the day won’t wait.
Like her song, it must be heard

When I sit in the quiet ‘til my soul pours out
it isn’t clear whose voice brings the words;
as if a secret has spilled like a spring from the earth,
and again, it must be heard

As the world starts to wake there’s no time for a song
only hurry, worry, and blame.
There are choices to make,
or visions may turn into flames.

We have to find the open door
We have to find the open door

As I sit by a brook in the heart of the woods
and leave the earth far behind;
I hear the water run over the face of the stones
and make believe I’m in a different time.

When the birds grow quiet at the end of the day
may our thoughts and fears float away;
may our dreams bring us peace,
may we welcome the following day - with a smile

When the mockingbird sings in the dawning light
may I linger there for a while…
